On The Rebound: Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong
As a sportswriter, you are often asked your opinion. This is a little puzzling since most of the time we are told our answer is wrong. In an effort to save time and effort, I will give my opinion about some of the things I am being asked. Feel free to respond to the e-mail address at the end of the column and tell me how wrong I am.
• Who will be better this season, South Laurel or North Laurel?
My answer. Both. So it is kind of sidestepping the issue, but it is better than what I have stepped in every other time I have answered about the two county schools. Let the record show I am not the North Laurel beat reporter. I cover both schools and am a fan of both schools. I attended Laurel County High School, which to me is South Laurel. My kids will attend North Laurel unless we move. Love both equally.
• Should the Patriots have punted the ball on fourth-and-2 from the Colts’ 28 yard line?
It’s hard to second-guess a great coach like Bill Belicheck, but that was one of the stupidest calls ever. I understand the reasoning and admire the guts. It was wrong. Some say he had analyzed the situation thoroughly and knew the percentages and what would give him the best chance to win. You can overanalyze, and sometimes you have to go with the gut.
• Did Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh run up the score on USC?
To paraphrase Allen Iverson’s famous rant about being forced to go to practice: It’s a point. We in here talking about a point. A point. Not a touchdown. Not a field goal. Not seven points. We talkin’ about a point. Not a touchdown. Not a touchdown that I would go out there and die for. A point. Not a touchdown. A point.
• Are the Bengals for real?
Yes they are. Word from people whoknow is the whole attitude in the locker room has changed since they got rid of some of the egos and issues. Not sure why you would go back down that road with Larry Johnson. Although it doesn’t matter, because the Bengals will lose in the playoffs to the Steelers. They cannot beat them three times.
• What would have happened to UK against Miami (Ohio) if Billy Gillispie were coaching?
The Wildcats would have lost by 20 and Josh Harrelson would have been locked in the bathroom stall for not stepping out to guard a three-point shooter. Instead we have an unbelievable win on a game-winning shot in John Wall’s first appearance in Blue and White. Doesn’t get much better.
• What high school football game would you like to be at this week?
I would like to be at North Laurel vs. South Laurel for the region title. Since neither one is there, I guess I would like to go to Letcher County Central at Pulaski County and root for them both to lose. Unbeaten Lawrence County at Bell County doesn’t look too bad. Breathitt County at Somerset looks like a pretty interesting game close to home as well.

Take unwanted animals to a shelter, not my house
One of the most annoying things about living in a relatively secluded but easily accessible place, such as Charlie Brown Road here in Garrard County, is that people who grow tired of their domestic animals find it convenient to drop them off on us.

The beauty of distraction
I just wrenched myself away from “Bethenny's Getting Married?” in order to write this column. Please know, I have never watched the show before and was only 20 minutes into the episode, but the wrench was still painful.
