LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The Laurel County Public Library will celebrate the fourth annual National Bookmobile Day on Wednesday, April 17. Library patrons will be able to tour the Laurel County Bookmobile and receive information regarding the service.
Bookmobiles are library branches on wheels. The Laurel County Bookmobile gives children and elderly or disabled persons living within the county the chance to have a library experience they might not have had otherwise.
The Laurel County Bookmobile has regular routes to nursing homes, senior apartment complexes, day cares, and the homes of those who do not have the ability to drive to the library. Laurel County’s first Bookmobile was on the road in November 1954.
Tony Henson is a valuable staff member of Outreach Services with several months experience on the Bookmobile and several years experience for the library. Eugenia “Gena” Irvin has been the Outreach Services manager for more than 18 years.
Tours of the Laurel County Bookmobile will be offered Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon in front of the main library.
