May 1 - Chamber of Commerce Primary Election Candidate Forum

LONDON — The London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce will host a Primary Election Candidate Forum on Thursday, May 1 at the Jackson Energy office on Ky. 229.

All candidates are invited to a Meet and Greet, starting at 5 p.m.  The forum will begin at 6 p.m., and will feature only candidates running in the primary in May.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. This is part one of a two part series in order for the Chamber to inform its members on the issues directly impacting their businesses and growth opportunities.

The London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce does not endorse any particular candidate.  It does, however, realize the importance of educating the voting population of our community as it relates to the issues facing London and Laurel County, both now and in the future.  The Chamber encourages its members to make informed choices in the upcoming primary election.

The Chamber is planning to host another candidate forum prior to the general election in November 2014.  Therefore candidates running in the primary in May will be the only candidates invited to speak during the forum on Thursday, May 1.   All candidates are welcome and encouraged to attend the Meet and Greet, and stay for the forum.

Questions to be asked will be solicited from the Chamber membership and reviewed and compiled by the Candidate Forum committee.

Each candidate will be given a specific amount of time to answer each question.  The time keeper will give a 30 second warning and then a 10 second warning.  When the bell sounds the candidate will step away from the microphone.

In consideration of the number of candidates for magistrate, each will be given the opportunity to prepare a response to one prompt. The magisterial candidates will have two minutes to introduce themselves and answer this question.  The question will be provided when the candidate confirms their interest in participating.
