LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
With store security personnel and cameras, coupled with magnetic devices on merchandise, shoplifting attempts in large chain franchise stores are often thwarted.
But a Woodbine man who admitted taking Xanax before attempting to shoplift from a store on West Cumberland Parkway in Corbin, 12 miles south of London, although police did not indicate whether his behavior was a factor in his being caught.
Johnny L. Sandridge, 20, of Catfish Road in Woodbine, was arrested by Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter just after 8 p.m. Wednesday after he tried to leave the store with stolen merchandise. Deputies found the Xanax in Sandridge’s possession and he admitted taking several pills before he attempted to steal the items.
Sandridge was charged with shoplifting, public intoxication of a controlled substance, and prescription of a controlled substance not in its original container.
He was taken to the Laurel County jail.
