A busy intersection that has been the site of several traffic accidents was the scene where a Lily man was blocking traffic on Saturday morning.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst spotted the maroon Pontiac Sunfire sitting in the road around 11:14 a.m., creating a traffic hazard. When Ashurst stopped to check and began talking to the driver — 30-year-old Toby Combs of Settles Lane in Lily — he saw a vodka bottle lying on the floorboard under the driver’s feet and smelled the strong odor of alcohol on Combs.

Ashurst determined him to be under the influence of intoxicants.

Combs was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence and improper parking. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
