Man arrested for choking girlfriend

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene of a domestic violence complaint on Maple Grove Road, seven miles south of London, just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

The call to 9-1-1 came when a female allegedly ran outside the home and yelled for help. Neighbors said the woman said her boyfriend — 47-year-old Ricky D. Witt of Cemetery Road in Emlyn — had choked her until she almost passed out.

Neighbors also said when Deputy Josh Scott’s cruiser pulled up to the residence, Witt had run inside the home. Fearing for the woman’s safety, deputies forced themselves into the home and began searching for the victim and the violator. The red hand marks around the woman’s neck was enough physical evidence to place Witt, who was hiding in a bedroom, under arrest. The woman also told deputies Witt had pulled out some of her hair.

Witt was arrested on charges of fourth-degree assault, with injury; resisting arrest, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Assisting at the scene were Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Robbie Grimes, and Deputy Steve Hoskins.
