Homeless man arrested for DUI

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst, along with Sgt. Brett Reeves, and Deputy Tyler Morris, were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle complaint on Dow Adkins Lane, 10 miles south of London, on Monday, Sept. 9 at around 11:24 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they located a black Buick Rendezvous  with a male subject passed out inside the vehicle, under the wheel, and keys in the ignition. An open can of beer was sitting beside him. An investigation determined the driver — Michael S. Baker, 46, of Barbourville — to be under the influence.

Baker was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence; driving on a DUI suspended license, first offense; possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle prohibited; no insurance; and numerous other traffic offenses.

Baker told deputies he was homeless, was living out of his vehicle,  and had  no where to go. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
