Scrap metal thefts send two to jail

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A vehicle loaded down with scrap metal taken from another property sent two to jail on Friday morning.

Delbert W. Profitt, 53, of Bailey Hollow Road in Gray and 27-year-old Linda M. Taylor of North Ky. 1223 in Corbin, were jailed after Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies James Sizemore and William Bo Harris answered a complaint concerning stolen scrap metal on Friday morning. The caller stated that a burglary was in progress on Dorthae Road, 10 miles south of London, around 8:30 a.m. When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle loaded with the scrap metal taken from another property.

Inside a mobile home nearby, deputies found Profitt and Taylor, and determined that they had stolen the scrap metal. The metal was returned to its rightful owners and Taylor and Profitt were charged with theft by unlawful taking.
