LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The shoppers’ scam was to ask for a refund with unpurchased merchandise, but that plan went awry for a Laurel County couple Sunday.
The scene was the Corbin Walmart store in southern Laurel County when 30-year-old Solomon Lyttle of Robinson Road East in London and 25-year-old Lacy Cox of Hensen HLW Road in Barbourville picked up some items from the store’s sporting goods section, then proceeded to the service desk to ask for a refund.
The two were detained by the store’s Loss Prevention team until Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Parrott arrived and placed them under arrest.
But the shoplifting charge was the least of Cox’s worries. A check revealed she had outstanding warrants from Knox County for charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense; possession of marijuana, prescription of a controlled substances not in the proper container, first offense; possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle prohibited, and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense.
Both Cox and Lyttle were taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
