Four arrested in fugitive case

Burglars wanted for scrap metal theft

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Two men believed to be involved in a store burglary and two others who tried to help hide them from police were taken into custody on Monday morning.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the whereabouts of 32-year-old Bryan Fields, who was a suspect in the burglary of a business as well as in the theft of other items that he allegedly sold for scrap metal.

Deputy Josh Scott had investigated the theft of an aluminum boat and two fuel tanks from a tractor-trailer from Twin Branch Road that Fields had reportedly sold to a scrap metal business in Laurel County.

On Monday, Scott and Deputy James Sizemore went to Jackson Road, where Fields was reportedly staying with his aunt. When the deputies arrived at the scene, they saw Fields’ silver Ford in the driveway and footsteps in the snow leading from the vehicle to the residence.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Special Response Unit (SRU), lead by Capt. Rodney Van Zant, arrived at the scene and gained entry into the home after the occupants refused to answer the door. The deputies conducted an extensive search of the premises and located Fields in a crawl space in the attic. Even then, Fields refused to surrender and had to be physically removed from the area. He continued to be combative with the officers while being placed under arrest.

Fields was charged on a Laurel County felony bench warrant for theft by unlawful taking, $500 or more but under $10,000, and first-degree criminal mischief from the alleged theft at A&B Quick Stop. He was also charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 from the theft of the metal items from Twin Branch Road. He was additionally charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal mischief.
