Man, drunk, causes disturbance at substance abuse center

A man who asked for a ride to a Laurel County Sheriff’s deputy to a substance abuse facility wound up in jail after he became combative after arriving at the center.

Leonard Swanson Jr., 46, of London, called for a ride Thursday night to Corbin’s Trillium Center because he was reportedly having some issues. Deputy Daniel Grigsby responded to the call that came in around 9:12 p.m. and transported Swanson — who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time — to the facility. But once at the Trillium Center, Swanson became combative and disruptive by threatening nurses, doctors, hospital security and other hospital staff. He took off his shirt and took a fighting stance and was determined to be a danger to himself and others. He tried to fight other patients, and after a scuffle, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication in a public place, and resisting arrest.

Swanson was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center following his arrest.
