LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Imagine arriving home and seeing your truck, running, backed up to your utility trailer loaded with your belongings.
That’s exactly what happened to a London woman last week.
The unidentified woman came home, made the discovery and immediately contacted police that someone was possibly inside her residence. And when Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Robbie Grimes and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter got to the scene, they proved her suspicions were correct.
A search of the home resulted in the deputies finding 34-year-old Curtis (Brandon) Brewer hiding in a bathroom after he had broken into the residence. Brewer allegedly took a firearm from the home, loaded it, took the truck keys and hooked a utility trailer, which also belonged to the victim, to the truck. Inside the truck were items from the residence as well.
However, Brewer had left a note of apology to the victim, stating that he was taking the pickup and 4-wheeler, but he was sorry for any inconvenience to the rightful owners.
Brewer was placed under arrest by deputies, charged with first-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking of an auto, and theft by unlawful taking for the other items. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center and remains under a $10,000 cash bond. He was scheduled for a hearing in Laurel District Court on Tuesday morning.
