LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst, while on a routine patrol, observed a green Honda Civic make a hard right turn onto Old Crab Orchard Road without using a turn signal on Feb. 9 at 12:40 a.m.
Deputy Ashurst conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Kentucky Hollow Road, five miles north of London. Upon making contact with two subjects in the vehicle, Ashurst detected the odor of what appeared to be marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. Both subjects inside the vehicle advised they had smoked marijuana prior to driving in the vehicle. Ashurst conducted a roadside investigation, determining that both were under the influence and both were arrested.
The driver was identified as Wiley Gambrel Jr., 27, of Liberty St., Smithfield, Penn., charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, failure to signal, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, and failure to wear seat belts. The passenger was identified as Larry Profitt, 22, of Kentucky Hollow Road, East Bernstadt, charged with public intoxication – controlled substances.
Both were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
