A Hyden woman who overstayed her welcome at a Dollar General Store was arrested at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Robbie Grimes and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter went to the Dollar General Store on West Laurel Road after getting a complaint of a woman who had been in the store for over an hour. When deputies conducted an investigation, they determined 56-year-old Lavonna Caldwell was intoxicated. Caldwell allegedly had no money on her but said her son had dropped her off at the store. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication of controlled substances and taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.

Less than two hours later, Grimes and Poynter went to Chaney Ridge Road, six miles west of London, after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a female sitting on the front porch of a residence. The residents did not know the woman.

After investigating the situation, the deputies determined that 48-year-old Regina Napier of Beiting Lane of Mt. Vernon was under the influence. Beiting told deputies she had smoked crank earlier and had a small quantity of marijuana on her. Napier was charged with public intoxication of controlled substances and possession of marijuana. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. No information was given about how Napier came to be in the area of her arrest.
