LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A Laurel man was arrested Wednesday in Laurel County for animal cruelty.

George E. Bowling, 43, of Bert Allen Road in London, is now scheduled for a hearing in Laurel District Court on Nov. 13 on charges of second-degree cruelty to animals. He was placed under a $5,000 surety bond during an arraignment on Wednesday morning.

Bowling was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg Turner went to a residence on Bert Allen Road, three miles east of London. There, he located a pit bull outside a residence, near some trash. The animal allegedly had no food or water and its living conditions were extremely poor, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. The animal itself was in poor physical condition, with its spine and ribs showing.

The Animal Control office was notified of the situation and while they were loading the dog to transport it to a safer and better environment, Bowling was being loaded in a police cruiser to be taken to Laurel County Detention Center.
