Driver arrested for DUI, driving on rim

Staff Writer

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Robbie Grimes and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter investigated a vehicle in Pilot Oil Gas Station parking lot after the driver had contacted Laurel 9-1-1 dispatch requesting help, but the driver told dispatchers she did not know where she was.

When deputies located the vehicle — a black Chevy Equinox — 13 miles south of London, on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8:20 p.m., deputies noted that its left front tire had blown out and the driver had been driving on the rim, apparently for some distance. The driver told deputies she did not know she was driving on the rim until someone at Pilot Oil told her.

An investigation of the driver determined she was under the influence. She told deputies she had taken Lortab by prescription and had a drink earlier.

Vicky Alsip, 44, of Corbin was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, second offense; no insurance, second offense; and other traffic offenses. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
