Meth found during traffic stop

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — In the darkness of Friday night, a vehicle that was weaving along I-75 near the Ky. 80 Exit 41 caught the eye of police monitoring the roadway.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Morris noticed the red Ford Explorer headed north, and along with Deputy Mikey Ashurst and a London City Police officer, stopped the vehicle for a routine traffic check.

That check determined the driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Dustin M. Moore of Knoxville, Tenn., was under the influence. Moore was also in possession of a small baggie containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. He also had two syringes, a weighing scale, and a glass pipe. Moore was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and careless driving.

A passenger in the car, 41-year-old Todd Ferrell of Sevierville, Tenn., was also arrested and charged with being under the influence as well as possession of drug paraphernalia after a hollow pen with white residue was found inside the tube. He was jailed for public intoxication of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
