LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

A London mother has been arrested following an investigation of a shoplifting spree at area Dollar General and Walmart stores.

Cynthia V. Mullins, 45, of Park Subdivision, was arrested Wednesday and charged with shoplifting.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Parrott, along with Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, investigated a gang of individuals who were shoplifting large quantities of diapers, baby formula, and other items from area Dollar General  and Walmart stores.

Due to the large quantities of items stolen, authorities believed the gang was reselling the items for profit.

The thefts began with great frequency last week, and continued into the weekend. Surveillance photos recovered from a Dollar Store on Ky. 229, south of London, of the alleged shoplifters were released to the media in order to solicit the public’s help to catch the thieves.

It appears each time Mullins was aided in the thefts by two teenage boys and two young children.

Following several tips, police arrested Mullins Wednesday in connection with the thefts.

Constable Tim May assisted in this investigation.
