Three arrested in shoplifting ring

The Corbin Walmart store in southern Laurel County has been the site of several shoplifting incidents, and the Labor Day holiday was no exception.

Laurel Sheriff’s officials responded to a call on Monday evening after store personnel reportedly detained two subjects who were seen shoplifting inside the store. A third subject eluded store officers and fled toward a business nearby, and although Deputy Larry Parrott and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter arrived within three minutes after the call, a search of the area for the third person involved was unsuccessful.

However, an alert to other law enforcement agencies concerning the third subject, who might be heading toward Pineville, proved successful.

A Corbin City Police officer spotted a suspect a short time later along U.S. 25-E in Knox County, more than three miles from the Walmart store. The officer detained the suspect, 31-year-old John Q. Partin of Pineville, until Laurel Sheriff’s officials arrived.

Partin was then charged with theft by unlawful taking, along with his two other accomplices, 27-year-old Heather F. Napier of Four Mile, and 21-year-old Dominic L. Carton of Pineville. Napier was also charged with an outstanding warrant from Bell County. The merchandise the trio took was valued at over $300.

All three were lodged in the Laurel Detention Center following their arrests.
