LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A man who stole two iPads is now facing a felony theft charge.

Mark A. Westfelt, 27, of 68 Gumm Road in London, was indicted on Friday for receiving stolen property over $500 and for being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

The incident occurred on May 29 when an unidentified man went into the Gamestop store on east U.S. 25 in southern Laurel County around 9 p.m. The man reportedly looked around the store, then left, but returned a few minutes later. He then took two iPads from a display case and left on foot. Store personnel noticed the missing iPads and gave chase to the suspect but were unsuccessful in locating him.

However, Westfelt was arrested in Barbourville on June 5 by Barbourville City Police and brought to the Laurel County Detention Center. Jail records indicate he was released three days later on a $5,000 surety bond. However, court records indicate Westfelt was not present in court on Friday, and his bond was reset at $10,000 cash, with an arraignment hearing set for Aug. 26.

Westfelt was also indicted for being a second-degree persistent felony offender, charged with two prior theft convictions, both in Bell County in 2011.

An indictment is an accusation only and does not imply guilt or innocence.
