LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Just two days shy of seven weeks after he assaulted a woman, a Laurel man was arrested on the charges.

Harold Gaines, 29, of Slate Lick Road in London, was taken into custody on Saturday night after Laurel County Sheriff’s officials learned of his location.

Gaines was wanted for assaulting a woman on Oct. 14 after she spotted his vehicle parked behind her mother’s house. When the man realized he had been spotted, he fled the scene but the woman was determined to catch him, suspecting that he intended to rob her mother’s home.

The woman followed the black pickup truck for some distance until the truck suddenly stopped on Feltner Steer Road in the northeastern section of the county. It was there the driver got out, dragged the woman from her vehicle and assaulted her. The woman was, however, able to video tape the incident.

Turning the information over to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Detectives Charlie Loomis, Detective Jason Back and Deputy James Sizemore, the man was identified in a photo lineup, but their attempts to locate him were unsuccessful as the suspect, Gaines, continued to elude police.

On Saturday night, however, a tip that lead to Gaines’ arrest sent Deputy Robbie Grimes, Deputy Larry Parrott, and Deputy Daniel Grigsby to Timber Edge Lane in East Bernstadt. Parking their cruisers a distance from  the mobile home where Gaines was staying, the deputies snuck up on Gaines, who was sitting in the living room. He was taken into custody without incident.

Gaines will now face charges of fourth-degree assault as well as four other outstanding warrants from Whitley County. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center following his arrest.
