Staff Writer

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Laurel County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a London man on Childers Drive Thursday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. after he agreed to purchase a EBT card over the Internet.

Detectives Jason Back and Brad Mitchell conducted an investigation after discovering an online post recently where an individual offered to pay cash for an EBT card (Electronic Benefits Card-Food Stamp Card) in the London, Ky. area.

Joey E. Woods, 42, of Saddlebrook Garden Homes, London, was charged with intent to defraud, scheme, or artifice to obtain benefits under $10,000.

Woods made a deal with undercover detectives to pay $100 cash in order to purchase $200 worth of groceries on the EBT card (a card not belonging to him). After Woods picked out the items he wanted, he met undercover detectives outside the business and paid them in cash. Woods further stated that he would buy the card again.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Assisting on the investigation was the Office of the Investigator General.
