Laurel couple indicted for rape of minor

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The December grand jury indicted a couple on fifteen counts of rape and sodomy against a mentally challenged minor girl.

Dustin Eugene Brummett, 25, of Laurel River Church Road, faces four charges of first-degree rape while Charlene Brummett, 37, of the same address, faces four charges of first-degree complicity to commit rape for failing to stop the offenses.

While the victim is above Kentucky’s age of consent of 16, the rape charges were upgraded because the girl has an IQ of 40.

Dustin Brummett is also charged with two counts of third-degree sodomy and Charlene Brummett with two counts of third-degree complicity to commit sodomy. The two also face several other sexually related counts.

During a preliminary hearing on November 13, Kentucky State Police Trooper Jack Riley testified he accompanied Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Stacy Anderkin and a representative of the Cabinet for Families and Children to a residence for a check after receiving a complaint of sexual abuse of a juvenile.

Dustin Brummett is being held under a $250,000 cash bond in the Laurel County Detention Center, and Eugene Brummett is being held under a $25,000 cash bond in the same place.

An indictment is an accusation only and does not imply guilt or innocence.
