Three arrested after avoiding traffic stop

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy James Sizemore arrested a driver and two passengers on Cherry Avenue, 10 miles south of London, on Monday, March 4 at 1:15 p.m. after they tried to avoid a traffic stop.

Michael S. McCormick, 29, of Terrell Road, Corbin — the driver of a White Chevrolet Silverado pickup — was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree, possession of a controlled substance and having no operator’s license.

A passenger — Michael A. Nakonechny, 31, of Hidden Acres, London, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.  

A second passenger — Amber L. Davis, 21, of Blue Bonnet Circle, Corbin, was charged on a Whitley County bench warrant on an outstanding  traffic violation disposition.

Deputy Sizemore located a White Chevrolet Silverado, stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation on its driver and two passengers.

McCormick was found to have no operator's license and be in possession of a syringe needle and a soda pop can with blue residue on it. Nakonechny was found to be in possession of syringe needles and other paraphernalia.

All three were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Shane Rice and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.
