Staff Writer

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst, while on patrol at 11 a.m. clocked a black Chevy Cavalier traveling northbound on U.S. 25 at 100 miles per hour on Friday, Nov. 1, nine miles south of London.

Deputy Ashurst turned his patrol car around, and initiated his emergency equipment. Near the Sweet Hollow Road junction (Ky. 2392), he observed the Cavalier run a vehicle off the road. Ashurst was able to get the vehicle to stop a half mile farther north — and the subject stopped in the middle of the road. Ashurst had him pull to the shoulder at this time.

An investigation was conducted and the subject advised he had drank a few beers before driving. Following the roadside investigation, Deputy Ashurst determined Jonathan A. Gray, 22, of London was under the influence. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence; reckless driving; second-degree wanton endangerment; speeding (more than 26 mph over the limit); no insurance card; and other traffic violations. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
