Trooper chase burglary suspects at U.S. 25 residence

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

LONDON — On Monday, Sept. 9 at approximately 2:56 p.m., Kentucky State Police Trooper Ryan Loudermilk was on patrol on U.S. 25, two miles south of Corbin, when he observed two males fleeing from a residence. One of them was carrying a pillowcase. Trooper Loudermilk also observed an older male, later identified as the homeowner, chasing the two men.

Justin R. Cornett, 23, of Woodbine, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary; prescription drugs not in a proper container and resisting arrest.

At the time of the incident, Loudermilk exited his patrol car and chased a male carrying a pillowcase. The second man saw Loudermilk and fled in the opposite direction. Loudermilk caught up with the subject carrying the pillowcase, later identified as Cornett, and discovered several suspicious items inside it.

The homeowner identified the items in the pillowcase as being his. Items included electronics and jewelry, along with two handguns and a long gun that had been dropped on the ground during the foot chase.

After a search of the area by a canine, the second male was not located.

Assisting at the scene were KSP Sgt. Lafe Owens, Trooper Mike Witt, Officer Toby Curry, Officer Steven Douglas and the Corbin Police Department.

 

Update: The second suspect from the burglary on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 was identified and arrested, as a result of Trooper Ryan Loudermilk’s investigation.

 

Arrested was:  Michael L. Loudermilk, 26, of  Somerset, Ky. He was  lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
