LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Over two and a half years after he was indicted on sex-related charges against a child, a Laurel man was brought to justice.
The arrest came on Wednesday night in Blackwater, Va. by Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective and U.S. Marshal Task Force Officer Jason Back and other U.S. Marshals in which 38-year-old Michael King was taken into custody.
King was indicted by a Laurel grand jury in January 2012 on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sodomy and incest against a child who was then 8 years old. First-degree sexual offenses are charged when the victim is less than 12 years of age.
The incidents, according to the indictment, took place between May and September 2011. The case was taken directly before a Laurel grand jury and King is not listed as having ever been in the Laurel County Detention Center on these or any other charges.
The indictment lists King with a Laurel Lake Road address, as does information from the Laurel County Detention Center. However, information of King’s whereabouts at a residence in Blackwater, Va. became available to local authorities on Wednesday and they sprang to action to confirm his location in order to make the arrest.
King was returned to Laurel County following his arrest and awaits a court hearing on the charges.
Jail records indicate King is held on a $50,000 cash bond, but no court date was listed as of Thursday evening.
