The affects of prescription drugs may have been a factor in an altercation involving a pregnant woman and a Laurel man on Tuesday.

Rodney F. Carter, 21, of Fred Nash Lane in London, was arrested around 5:40 p.m. as he walked along Poplar Hollow Road, eight miles east of London, following an attack on his pregnant stepmother.

The incident took place at the residence of the stepmother, where neighbors told Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Parrott they could hear a loud disturbance.

Information in the case indicates that Carter ran towards the pregnant woman, hitting her in the stomach with his fist. He then left the residence, and was picked up by police as he walked along the roadway. Carter admitted to snorting Roxacets prior to the altercation and a press release from the Sheriff’s Office states that Carter was “extremely intoxicated.”

Carter is now charged with fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, and public intoxication of a controlled substances. He was housed in the Laurel Detention Center.
