Routine stop leads to DUI arrest

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Laurel County Sheriff’s  Deputy Daniel Grigsby, along with Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter and Deputy Kevin Berry, arrested an individual on the Hal Rogers Parkway, six miles east of London, following a routine traffic stop on Sunday, Sept. 8 at around 6;11 p.m. The driver was determined to be driving under the influence and  marijuana was discovered in the vehicle.

Shawn D. Miller, 26, of Conley Drive, Somerset was stopped while speeding in a blue Ford Escort. Investigation at the scene determined Miller was under the influence. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, fourth offense; driving on a DUI suspended license, third offense; and numerous other traffic offenses.

In addition, Detective Jason Back  charged Miller with trafficking in marijuana, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was found in his possession. Miller was also charged with being a persistent felony offender I because of a prior felony conviction.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
