LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

A roadside stop of a vehicle led to the arrest of a 60-year-old man for smoking methamphetamine.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Parrott and Detective Jason Back stopped a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon near Sheffield Place and discovered a suspected meth pipe.

Their suspicions were correct, when testing showed the pipe contained meth and the driver of the vehicle, 60-year-old Jerry W. Owens of Blakes Fork Road in Williamsburg, admitted to smoking meth.

Owens was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence. But another charge was added when the man became combative and initiated a brief struggle. Owens was taken into custody and then charged with resisting arrest. Additional charges were added — possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense.

Owens was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center following his arrest.
