A vehicle was stopped by Deputy Mikey Ashurst while traveling along Old Whitley Road, approximately five miles west of London, early Saturday around 12:22 a.m. for a routine traffic check.

But when Ashurst began talking to the two passengers inside, the odor of marijuana was obvious. To confirm his suspicions, he spotted a bag of suspected marijuana lying in the lap of the juvenile passenger. As the investigation continued, Ashurst learned that the driver — 40 year old Marcus Woods of Lily Road in London — tossed the marijuana over to the passenger when the blue lights came on in Ashurst’s vehicle. Woods reportedly said, “That’s your marijuana — do something with it.”

However, Woods was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, and numerous other traffic violations. He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center following his arrest. No information on the juvenile passenger was released.
