DUI arrest made at traffic safety checkpoint


Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Morris arrested a man he determined was driving under the influence at a safety checkpoint on Ky. 490, 12 miles north of London, on Friday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 p.m.

Steven F. Sturgill, 50, of Mt. Vernon was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle prohibited.

Sturgill was driving a green colored Saturn Ion when deputies noticed the presence of alcoholic beverages in his vehicle and about his person. An investigation at the scene determined Sturgill was under the influence.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
