LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said two females were arrested for taking too many prescription drugs at a bingo hall on Saturday night.
Melissa A. Gray, 37, of Scalf, was charged with public intoxication of controlled substances. Also arrested was Shanna A. Williams, 28, of Barbourville, who was charged with public intoxication of controlled substances and endangering the welfare of a minor because she had her 3-year-old child with her. Social services was called to the scene and the child was placed with the father.
Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Grigsby investigated a complaint he received from off duty Deputy/Detective Tommy Johnston that two possible intoxicated women were at a bingo hall on U.S. 25, two miles south of London, around 7:15 p.m. and that they had a small child with them.
When Deputy Grigsby arrived at the scene, he determined Gray and Williams were intoxicated. He learned they were both taking prescription medicines but not taking them as prescribed, and took them prior to leaving home. Both were determined to be under the influence and were arrested.
Both were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
