LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Although the cause of a domestic situation in which two children were struck by their father is not known, a Lily man awaits a court hearing next week on child abuse charges.
Thomas L. Gifford, 31, of Clark Lane in Lily, was arrested on two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence of child abuse by Laurel County Sheriff's deputies on Saturday night. The 6’3”, 360 pound man allegedly choked his 9-year-old daughter and threw her in a closet. He then reportedly kicked his 7-year-old daughter in the back.
According to Laurel County Deputy and Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo, the mother of the children called 9-1-1 regarding the incident on Clark Lane, seven miles south of London, around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The father reportedly has some medical issues, although officials could not release any information regarding that situation.
Arresting officers were Deputy Robbie Grimes and Deputy Steve Hoskins.
Gifford was held under a $2,500 cash bond and jail records indicate that he was released on Monday.
Gifford is scheduled to appear in Laurel District Court on Dec. 14.
