LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
On Saturday, Nov. 3, the London Karate Academy will host its first karate tournament at the Optimist Club Sports Center. The tournament is a belt championship and will serve as the academy’s end of the year competition.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 3. Admission is $5 at the door.
More than 200 will compete, from ages 3 to up, in the belt championship. First place winners will receive more than $4,000 in awards. Second, third and fourth places will receive a trophy and everyone will get a participation medal, said Evva Johnson, LKA instructor.
The event will also be a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, as all monies raised through concessions and a silent auction will go to the charity.
In addition to the championship tournament, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight will be held at 6 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in London.
Concessions sales during the MMA fight will also go to St. Jude.
Discount tickets are available for students and families who attend the LKA championship earlier in the day. Admission is $10 with a LKA tournament ticket; regular admission is $20.
