LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The Southeast Kentucky Community Chorus (formerly known as the London Community Chorus) will present its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church.
This group is a volunteer chorus comprised of approximately 50 singers from throughout the area. The Community Chorus is directed by Jerry Wright and accompanied by Sue Taylor.
Sunday’s program will include a wide variety of Christmas musical selections including: The First Noel/Pachelbelll’s Canon, Ding Dong Merrily on High, Of the Father’s Love Begotten, Rise Up Shepherd, and Carol of the Bells. Of particular note are a setting of the Spanish Carol Riu, Riu, Chiu, and a beautiful setting of Ave Maria by Austrian composer Franz Biebl. The program will also have a lighter side including songs, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus and the ever popular, Sleigh Ride.
Although there are multiple versions of the beginnings of the Community Chorus in London, they have been singing to the community at Christmas for more than 60 years.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this concert. There is no charge for admission but a free will offering will be received following the program. A nursery is available for preschoolers 3 and under.
First Baptist Church is located at 804 W. 5th St. in London.
