Feb. 28- A Tribute to Freedom Riders at Library

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — In celebration of Black History Month, the Laurel County Public Library will host a tribute to the Freedom Riders who rocked the status quo by riding various forms of public transportation in the South to challenge local laws or customs that enforced segregation.

Join professors from Somerset Community College as they explore the true story of more than 400 people who challenged the mores of a racially segregated society by performing a disarmingly simple act.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 with a showing of the film The Freedom Riders and continues at 7 p.m. with a discussion of the film and the impact of this event on the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.

The program is free and open to the public.

Registration is appreciated for planning purposes. Register online at www.laurellibrary.org or call Gwen at 606-864-5759.

The library is located just off the Ky. 192 bypass in London.
