Trail Ride for a Cure scheduled Oct. 10

The second annual Trail Ride for a Cure will be Oct. 10, a day of togetherness that will include incredible views of the countryside, a concert by Baxter Black and a lively auction.

The event, which last year was in memory of London resident Malisha Hodges and others who lost their lives to cancer, is in Nancy. Andrea Coomer has been organizing the event since the spring.

“The ride is about three hours,” she said. “After the ride, we have dinner and the auction. At 6 p.m., we have Baxter Black.”

Coomer has amassed amazing items for the auction, including an autographed photo of Daniel Radcliffe (i.e. Harry Potter), two VIP passes to the show Dr. Phil, tickets to see Las Vegas magician Lance Burton and Dolly Parton paraphernalia.

Last year, about 400 people attended the event, which raised $4,000.

“In this economy, $4,000 would be good again this year,” Coomer said. “But it’s the awareness. To have the awareness is most important to me.”

To help spread that awareness, Coomer said brochures, pamphlets and fliers will be on-site for perusal. A representative from the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center also will speak.

The trail ride will be for professional and amateur riders alike.

“We had a lady here last year that had never been on a trail ride in her life,” Coomer said.

Those who prefer not to ride can play cornhole and horse shoes at the ranch.

Funds raised will go to the Markey Cancer Center and Hope Lodge.

Registration for Trail Ride for a Cure starts at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 at 7C’s Ranch in Nancy, Ky. Baxter Black will perform at 6 p.m. The event is free, but monetary donations are welcome.

Seven C’s Ranch is off KY 80 between Somerset and Russell Springs. Turn onto Piney Grove Road in Nancy. For more information, call Andrea Coomer at 606-875-9500.
