Cobb fans 9, Lady Jags win 14th in a row

North Laurel beat Madison Southern, 8-0

From dominating pitching and consistent hard hitting to athletic fielding, the North Laurel Lady Jaguars are taking care of business everyday and every way as they defeated Madison Southern 8-0 on Tuesday night for their 14th straight victory.

“We did what we had to do to win today,” North Laurel coach Shane Weaver said. “I can’t really complain about any part of our game. I just want us to continue to push forward and win the big games.”

Carrie Cobb continued to shine on the mound with nine strikeouts while only allowing two hits on the night for her sixth win of the season.

“Carrie did what she had to do on the mound,” Weaver said. “When we started off the year I wanted to go up and I believe we have gone up.”

Ashley Wampler and Rachel Akins got the Jaguars started in the second inning as Wampler made the score 1-0 with an RBI single and Akins rounded out the inning with an RBI single for the 2-0 advantage.

Leading 3-0 going into the fifth inning the Jaguars decided it was time to send some players home as they scored three runs.

Wampler rewarded Megan Taylor and Akins for leading off the inning with a single by giving them a free ticket home with a line drive double for the 5-0 advantage. Courtney Brock added a slap shot RBI for the 6-0 lead to end the inning. The Jags finished with 12 hits on the night.

“We didn’t have a lot of lazy pop-ups,” Weaver said. “We hit the ball solidly. It was a line drive or a ball on the ground and we are going to continue to give ourselves a chance if we do that.”

Haley Hensley showed off her athletic ability with a leaping grab to erase a sure double during the fourth quarter. It was not the first time this season Hensley impressed the coach.

“Haley might be the best athlete that we have,” Weaver said. “I’m not saying the strongest, just the best athlete to jump and make that catch. I’ve seen her dive and lay out straight horizontal to make a catch so that didn’t surprise me.”

North Laurel was scheduled to host Ryle last night.
