Lady Jaguar junior varsity wins Tates Creek tourney

Softball team goes 4-0

LEXINGTON—North Laurel's junior varsity softball team won the Tates Creek JV Tournament in Lexington on Saturday, winning all four games.

In the first game the Lady Jags defeated Meade County 1-0 as a pair of back to back hits from Kelsi Smith and Megan Taylor plated the only run of the game. Taylor also got the victory on the mound giving up 0 runs on 2 hits.

In the second game, Megan Baldwin was the winning pitcher as North pounded Tates Creek 19-2. Haley Herrell went 3-5, Kelsi Smith 2-4, Brooklyn Pennington 2-3, Kristin Fields 2-4 and Sidney Herrell 2-3 to lead North Laurel in hitting.

Against Dunbar, Megan Taylor struck out 10 and threw a no-hitter for North as the Lady Jags won 4-0 in the third game of the day. Taylor also went 2-3 at the plate with Christian Prince, Vanessa Smith, Blake Johnson and Brooklyn Pennington also picking up a hit in the game.

The last game of the round robin event saw North Laurel score 14 runs in shutting out Henry Clay. Megan Baldwin picked up her second win of the day going 5 innings while striking out 5 in the game. At the plate Kelsi Smith led the hitting attack going 3-4 followed by Megan Taylor, Brooklyn Pennington and Sidney Herrell all with 2 hits each. Farris Strong, Christian Prince and Kristin Fields each added a hit in the win.
