Lexington Christian rolls past South Laurel, 10-1

LEXINGTON—Frustrating.

That’s how South Laurel coach Harmon Hodge described his team’s 10-1 loss to No. 11 Lexington Christian Tuesday night in boys’ soccer action.

“They scored their first goal in the first three minutes of the game,” Hodge said. “They had a free kick, and Jeffery Poston was on the post. As the ball was sent in, (keeper) Tyler Huff called for it, and Jeffrey let to go through his legs and the ball ended up in the goal.”

Less than five minutes later, Lexington Christian took a 2-0 lead when a shot deflected off Poston and into the goal. “It was downhill after that,” Hodge said. Christian led 4-0 at the half. “That second goal took the win out of us.”

The Cardinals were without Dylan Berry and Johnathan McClure, both sitting out due to red card infractions.

“I wish we would have been at full strength,” Hodge said. “It might have been a closer game.”

In the second half, the Cards went to a 4-2-2 formation, putting different people up front to try and score. Justin Lewis did find the back of the net for the Cardinals’ lone goal.

“We just have to put this game behind us and prepare for Model,” Hodge said. South Laurel traveled to face Richmond Model last night.
