MURFREESBORO, Tn.—North Laurel’s Courtney Brock turned in an exceptional performance in the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star game, held June 25 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Brock was 4-for-8 in two games, driving in four runs and scoring a run as Kentucky swept Tennessee for the first time ever. She also made some good plays in centerfield.
In the first game, she was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored as Kentucky beat Tennessee, 8-3. Southwestern’s Shelby Kosemcki was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on seven hits.
Ashley McNutt of Louisville Mercy hit a grand slam in the top of the second to give Kentucky a 6-0 lead. Mallory Johnson of Scott Co. was 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
Game two was a little closer, with Kentucky pulling out a 5-4 win.
With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Johnson led off with a triple, and Brock slapped a single and Johnson scored the winning run. Johnson also had a two-run double in the game, and Brock scored on a double by McNutt earlier to give Kentucky a 4-2 lead.
Kentucky has now was four in a row, and the game will move back to Western Kentucky University next year.
