SOMERSET—Still looking for a win.
That’s what the North Laurel Jaguars are doing, after falling 5-3 to Somerset Tuesday night in boys’ soccer action.
“We played much, much better,” North Laurel coach Becki Woodworth said. “Offensively we played very well. We scored first and that’s huge considering we have scored much this season at all.”
Cam Huff scored twice for the Jaguars, while Aaron Beckner added the third goal. Alex Pence scored twice for Somerset (3-2), while Felipe Ortiz, Denny Clark and Brent Joplin also scored for the Briarjumpers.
“Somerset is a good team and they are always very good at scoring,” Woodworth said. “Now I am seeing what I thought I would see from our team. It is a huge confidence booster to get those three goals, especially because Cam scored two of them. His job is to score and he knows that. He gets extremely frustrated with himself when it doesn’t happen.”
Caleb Mosley also stepped up for the Jaguars with several big saves from the keeper position.
“Caleb played out of his mind,” Woodworth said. “The goals that were scored, he had no chance to stop and the saves he made were saves he didn’t necessarily have to make. If they would have gone in everyone would have said he had no chance. He played a very strong, very good game. He is a great keeper and we are blessed to have him on our team.”
The loss dropped North Laurel to 0-5 (they fell 2-1 to Barren Co. in the Hyundai Cup at Pulaski Co.). The Jaguars faced Newport Central Catholic last night in the Cardinal Cup at Scott Co.
