OBI drops NL, 6-1
Mountaineers down Jaguars in boys' soccer
The North Laurel Jaguars struggled to catch up with Oneida Baptist Institute on Thursday and were defeated 6-1 in a physical game.
“OBI is very quick and athletic,” North Laurel coach Becki Woodworth said. “They get better as the season goes.”
OBI scored twice in the first half in what was a hard fought defensive battle, but they opened things up in the second half and grabbed a 4-0 advantage during the 58th minute of play.
“We knew they would be physical,” Woodworth said. “They have the ability to beat anyone in our district. They are a very good team.”
The Jaguars finally scored on a penalty kick from Cam Huff during the 51st minute of play for the 5-1 score. The Jaguars missed an opportunity on an earlier penalty kick.
“Cam just got on the ball and took it himself,” Woodworth said. “I was very happy to see that. Somebody needed to step up and take over.”
The Jaguars gave up one more goal, but were forced to play without two starters on the field. With two players out of the rotation they struggled to make the adjustments while playing different positions.
“We’ve got a long way to go,” Woodworth said. “We need to focus on adjusted to new positions and get used to moving around and keeping people in front of us. We just need to be more solid. We get timid when they are faster than us.”
North Laurel traveled to face Garrard Co. on Saturday, and are scheduled to host Madison Central tonight.
