Woman killed in wreck

A West Virginia woman was killed and three other people were injured in a one-vehicle accident on KY 638 Saturday afternoon. The four people had just left a wedding ceremony in Lily.

Martha Goings, 74, of Spanishburg, W.Va., was transported to Saint Joseph-London, where she was pronounced dead by Laurel County Deputy Coroner Chris Vanover.

Goings’ sister, Robertha Taylor, 72, of Annville, was driving the gold Toyota Camry at the time of the accident. She was listed in fair condition Monday evening at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Ben Taylor, 14, of Lexington, Robertha Taylor’s grandson, was listed in stable condition Monday evening at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Robertha Taylors’ other grandson, Ethan Taylor, 16, of Lily, was listed in fair condition at the same hospital.

Robertha Taylor was driving east on KY 638, near the intersection of KY 578, when she ran off the road and hit a tree, Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Jones said. She and her grandsons were airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Linda Taylor, Ben Taylor’s mother, said the family members were returning to Annville after attending a wedding in Lily. She said she had already returned to Annville in another car and was waiting for her son to arrive when the accident happened.

Assisting at the scene were the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, McWhorter Voluntary Fire Department and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
