Keavy firefighters battle house fire on Auger Springs Road





Keavy firefighters were called to battle a house fire on Auger Springs Road about 9 a.m. Thursday.

“It was on fire from one end to the other and up in the attic,” Keavy Fire Chief Ronnie Bales said.

Bales said firefighters spent the next hour and a half knocking down the flames and ensuring there were no smoldering embers remaining.

Assistant Chief Skip Dodd, said while the structure is still standing, large portions have been gutted and there is significant smoke damage throughout.

“We were able to save some of the contents,” Dodd said.

The source of the fire was traced to a bedroom closet at one end of the home, though Bales said firefighters could not determine what started the blaze.

No one was at home at the time. Bales said the home belongs to Cecil Griffin

In addition to the 10 volunteer firefighters, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County responded to the scene.
