London Police arrest suspected burglar

Gregory found inside South U.S. 25 home

By Dean Manning
Staff Writer

Because no one was living in a house at 195 South U.S. 25, the property owners asked the neighbors to watch for trouble.

On June 10, trouble came calling in the form of a burglar and London Police responded, arresting Anthony R. Gregory of Manchester on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $300, second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

London Police were dispatched to the scene about 5 p.m. Tuesday in response to a call of an unknown subject inside the home.

London Police’s Lt. Stewart Walker, Detective Jimmy Phelps, Sgt. Joe Smith and officer Travis Hurley responded to the scene, locating Gregory outside the home and taking him into custody.

“He (Gregory) said he found the back door unlocked,” Phelps said.

While no one was living at the home, Phelps said it is furnished and Gregory was trying to take some of the appliances.

Among the items reported taken from the home, which officers said they found on Gregory’s truck, were a refrigerator, dishwasher, desk and chair, twin bed and vanity.

Because the charges are felonies, a not guilty plea was entered on Gregory’s behalf during his arraignment in Laurel District Court. Gregory is scheduled to return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, at which time the judge will determine if there is sufficient cause to present the case to a Laurel County Grand Jury.
