4 people hurt in Parkway crash

By Carol Mills
Staff Writer

Four people were injured Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident on Hal Rogers Parkway.

Bobby Mathis, 51, and his passenger Rita Mathis, both of Manchester; Marcella Wise, 81, and Sabrina England, 59, both of London, were transported with unknown injuries to Saint Joseph-London, London Police Officer Randy Medlock said.

Bobby Mathis was unable to be airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center because of bad weather conditions.

Witnesses said Bobby Mathis was driving a black Dodge pickup eastbound on Hal Rogers Parkway around 2 p.m. when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of KY 638, Medlock said.

Wise was driving a Lincoln westbound on KY 638 and was attempting to cross the intersection when she was struck by Mathis’ vehicle.

Mathis’ truck also struck a blue Bonneville driven by England, who had stopped at the intersection of east KY 638 and was attempting to turn left onto Hal Rogers Parkway.

Medlock is investigating the accident. Assisting at the scene were other London Police officers and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
