LPD ‘knock and talk’ leads to meth charges

By Dean Manning
Staff Writer

What started out as a follow-up on complaints of meth being made and sold at a home on Pearl Street ended with the arrest of five people on meth-related charges Wednesday.

London Police Lt. Stewart Walker said police had received numerous complaints concerning drugs at the home at 128 Pearl St. in the eastern part of London.

“We had been watching the area because of complaints we have received over the last several months about meth being made at the home,” Walker said. “Wednesday, we went to do a ‘knock and talk’ to find out if there was any evidence of the complaint.”

Inside the home, Walker said officers found meth and prescription pain killers worth between $8,000 and $10,000.

“Most of it (meth) was packaged for sale in one-half and one-quarter gram amounts,” London Police Detective Sgt. Blaine Inman said.

Though officers did not find an active meth lab, Walker said they found evidence of meth manufacturing including blister packs from pseudophedrine packages, batteries, solvent cans and other methamphetamine precursors.

Walker said police initially arrested Jeremy Boggs, 31, Danny D. Brummett, 40 and Jonathan W. McGraw, 37 on meth manufacturing and drug trafficking charges.

Two other individuals who came to the house later that evening, Michael W. Evans, 38 and Russell B. Gregory, 37, were arrested by police for possession of methamphetamine. In addition, Evans was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and Gregory was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and driving on a DUI suspended license.

While we were still there, Evans went up to the door and knocked,” Walker said. “Gregory showed up later that night.”

The five men were each lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
