KSP trooper forced to chase suspected drunk on foot

By Dean Manning
Staff Writer

Kentucky State Police responding to a complaint of a suspected drunk driver finally took the suspect into custody following a foot chase.

Trooper Don Trosper, Public Affairs Officer at Post 11 in London, said at 7:12 p.m. Sunday, troopers were notified of a white Ford pick-up truck on Waterworks Road, which was being operated in a reckless manner.

Troopers began an attempt to locate the vehicle, which was discovered by Trooper Steve Smallwood on West 16th Street in London. Smallwood attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to stop and a chase ensued.

As the pick-up attempted to pass through the intersection of West 16th Street and North Mill Street, it struck another vehicle before turning south on Mill Street. Police said no injuries were reported.

After making the turn, Trosper said the truck struck a street lamp pole, then passed through a parking lot and turned on to Moren Road.

“The pickup came to rest in the area of Moren Road and Nazareth Hill Road after striking several trees and a fence in the back yard of a private residence,” Trosper stated.

With the truck at the end of the line, Trosper said the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was taken into custody by Trooper Smallwood.

The suspect was identified as Adam McQueen, 40, of London. McQueen was charged with reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, second-degree fleeing or evading police, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, first--degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, persistent felony offender and fugitive from another state. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

Smallwood was assisted by other KSP Troopers and London Police.
